Drawing from the firm’s extensive experience in insurance recovery, Managing Partner Sean Andrade spoke with Business Insider about essential insurance guidance for Southern California wildfire victims.
Key guidance includes making claims immediately, requesting your entire policy so you can understand your coverage, benefits, and limits, documenting your current living expenses, and creating detailed personal property inventory lists. Ask your insurer to advance 30% of personal property limits (up to $250,000) and living expenses before submitting your itemized claim.
Don’t Panic / Take Care of Yourself: “The biggest thing is not to rush,” Sean advised. “What I’ve seen is that a lot of people are going through a lot of distress. Work on it gradually, and don’t hesitate to ask for help.” For the inventory lists, it’s best to go room by room. Use photos and videos from your phone, and ask friends and family (who might also have pictures of your home) for help.
Finally, don’t get pushed into joining litigation before you’re ready. You have time!
With current estimates of up to $30 billion in losses, our Firm is committed to supporting our community through this crisis.
