FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 18, 2020 – Los Angeles based law firm Andrade Gonzalez LLP, author of the amicus brief in Texas v. United States, proudly supports today’s Supreme Court ruling, a 5-4 decision, blocking the Trump administration’s attempt to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

DACA allows undocumented immigrant children to live and work in the United States as long as they meet specific criteria. These immigrants, better known as “Dreamers,” had been living in fear of deportation before today’s ruling. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion and was joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Stephen Breyer, and Sonia Sotomayor.

In 2015, President Barack Obama took executive action to protect Dreamers and allow them to apply for work permits. The state of Texas sued the United States, and a preliminary injunction was ordered. Today’s ruling was a victory in upholding the rights of Dreamers.

“We are pleased with today’s result and celebrate with all Dreamers and their families. The firm is grateful to have played a small part in standing up for those seeking to fulfill their dreams of living and working in the United States,” said Sean Andrade, founder and managing partner of the firm. “I remember when Mayor Eric Garcetti gave us days to draft an amicus brief to give a voice to 33 mayors of national cities in opposing Texas v. United States, and everyone in the firm was so excited to pitch in to make it happen,” Andrade added. “We are proud to have helped along the way, and it brings the firm great joy to see this ended with the right result,” Andrade concluded.

Andrade Gonzalez LLP, a longstanding member of the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (“NAMWOLF”), continues to fight for the rights of the underrepresented.
